Outdoor Year 2015 Summary

Well it is becoming a real tradition to head up North every second year. This year's Stikine River trip was a real reward compared to our situation on "Copper" in 2013. Strong headwinds from the first two days on the river played with our minds as it was bringing up strong memories from Copper. But overall the weather calmed down and we only had 2 rainy days on 7 day trip. I felt like we should stay longer and 7 days in backcountry and fair weather was not enough. The coastal mountains and isolation especially during day 3-4 were very satisfying. The hard part of Stikine River trip is definitely the logistics. Taking a ferry to Prince Rupert, Greyhound bus to Kitwanga and then hitchhiking all the way up to Telegraph was an expedition itself.

Another memorable trip was the Assinboine heli fly-in and ski out. Skiing on Gloria Lake under southern wall of Mt.Assinboine was an incredible experience. Very few people dedicate the day to hike up off-trail in waist deep powder to get to this beautiful location. We skied more than 30km on last day and our finish with headlamps was pretty dramatic. We were extremely exhausted and happy when we got back to car at heliport.

Our Hawaiian trip was all I could dream about. Wildlife, coral reefs, volcanoes, waterfalls and large waves made our tropical vacation the best it could be.

We didn't climb much but I am very happy that I learned so much about fishing&hunting in 2015. I felt very confident on Stikine trip and had a number of great freeride runs at Sunshine. Paddling with Honzo and Jaro was a ton of fun. Zuzka improved her x-country skiing and she just couldn't get enough hiking during the summer. She also impressed me on her first winter camping trip. I have to mention also that it was very nice to spend time with our parents in Rockies and show them around our new home. We spent some quality time in Europe travelling to Barcelona, Zurich, Annecy, Chamonix and hiked a few trails back in Slovakia.
